Guelph Climate Hub

Guelph has a long history of climate action and initiatives. The Guelph groups listed below are active community change makers working to reduce emissions, protect land and water, build active transportation, advocate change, and create resilience.

Get Involved! Guelph (GIG) brings together the information citizens need to make good decisions, create opportunities to listen to each other and engage in projects and campaigns to ensure that every citizen benefits from an effective local government.

Get Involved Guelph’s Fossil Fuel Out Of School campaign arose out of Guelph parent Sam Stevenson’s Electrify Arkell High campaign. Sam, along with other local citizens, were concerned the Upper Grand District School Board would build a new secondary school with fossil fuel heating. Sam wanted to ensure this school which his children will attend gets 100% electric heat pump heating instead. This aligns with global calls to phase out fossil fuels and will be an educational opportunity and inspiration for youth.

The Guelph Climate Action Network (GCAN) works to mobilize collective community action to address the climate emergency, build local resilience and ensure a sustainable and equitable future for all.

Guelph Coalition for Active Transportation, GCAT, envisions a future in which Guelph’s citizens can walk or bike around their city in comfort, while contributing positively to public health and happiness, clean air, and a vibrant local economy.

The Yorklands Green Hub (YGH) is a non-profit organization working to create a one-of-a-kind green hub in Guelph for the benefit of the community on part of the former Guelph Correctional Centre (GCC) heritage lands. On them we aim to develop an education centre among the scenic streams, ponds, meadows, and trails. Until then, we refer to the area as the Yorklands site.
